UAE Strengthens Corporate Banking Due Diligence Requirements

Banks in the UAE have continued to tighten the level of documentation and beneficial-ownership detail expected from companies opening corporate accounts, particularly those with a holding structure spanning more than one jurisdiction.

In practice, this means applicants are increasingly asked to demonstrate the full picture behind a company — clear ownership chains, a credible source of funds narrative, and evidence of real operating activity — before an account is approved, rather than relying on the free zone or mainland licence alone.

For international founders, the practical takeaway is preparation. Applications that arrive with a complete, well-organised profile move faster through internal bank review than those submitted piecemeal, and a rejection at one institution can make subsequent applications elsewhere more difficult.

What this means for clients: we're building this into how we prepare corporate applications — with source-of-funds documentation and structure charts assembled up front, rather than supplied reactively once a bank asks for them.
